How to Overcome Obstacles

Are you facing obstacles and feeling stuck? You may have tried many ways to get out of the rut that you are in. From my experience, the ABCDE Success Formula works well. I’d like to share that with you. I also would like to hear your comments about the strategies that you find helpful.

One disclaimer about this formula is that it only works for personal development for self, and not for fixing others. I mean it will only work for yourself if you want to improve a certain aspect of your life or to achieve a specific goal. Many times, I’ve seen people getting frustrated with their husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, son, or daughter, and they want them to change because her/her behaviors are unacceptable, unpleasant, or simply annoying to them.

For example, my friend Flora wants her teenage son to become a professional engineer because she knows there will always be a demand for competent engineers. To Flora, having a successful career will pave the way for her son to lead a stable, prosperous life down the road. Flora was frustrated because her son opted to study Liberal Arts at University. So, the ABCDE Success Formula will not work for Flora if her goal is to convince her son to become a professional engineer.

The thing is, we cannot change others unless they want to. We can only support, assist, or motivate others to change. But the journey starts with oneself. The fact is, actions speak louder than words. Often times, when other people see how far we’ve come, they will be amazed at our transformation, and they also are inspired to change.

Next time when you face obstacles in achieving your goal, such as weight loss or learning a new skill, remember the ABCDE to help you get back on track and enjoy success.

Aspiration - Hold on to the hope that things will work out in the end

Belief - Believe that you have what it takes to achieve greatness

Commitment - Devote energy to the cause that you signed up for, keeping plugging away until it is finished

Design a Plan - Figure out the strategy, tactics, and steps required to complete your goal

Execution - Do the necessary steps according to your plan, be ready to adjust your plan when required

What is the most common pitfall that you tend to trip on when facing obstacles?
